Richard Branson says ...
Every successful person, including billionaires, has repeatedly experienced this on their way to wealth and prosperity.
You never know what kinds of advice you’ll get in these so-called “celebrity” articles. This one is no different. One of the tips he provided really surprised me. I’ll let you read it for yourself. [my clickbait for today]
The one piece of advice that wasn’t a big surprise was the first one: Recognize and celebrate your failures.
Lord knows I’ve had plenty. Just last year, I gave up something that I loved… but had failed at, although I had been pursuing it for a whole year. What was it?
I love to read books. I have a huge library. I thought I would enjoy buying and reselling books online for a profit. So what did I do?
First, I tapped into sources of really inexpensive books of high quality. Many of those purchases were books I wanted to have … and they went directly to my library. The rest went to Amazon. Hundreds and hundreds of them.
Why did I fail? Selling used books is a volume-based business. If you’re not one of the big guys, forget it. Between the fees at Amazon, the inbound costs, the outbound shipping, the software cost, and the time it takes to track all those purchases, you’ve made a huge investment. Oh, and when a problem with a book I purchased came up, it took documentation, followup, and tracking to handle it.
I just couldn’t do it anymore and still live my life.
Well, I still buy a lot of books; I keep them for myself or donate them to the local library.
Tell me about something YOU failed at. Why did you start doing it in the first place?
